Financial arrangements on divorce
Financial disputes can be a major stumbling block in the divorce process and could take longer than the divorce itself. This is the business side of divorce and it may be the most important financial event of your life. The choices and decisions that you make now may have an important influence on your financial well-being for many years to come.
The Costs associated with dealing with financial provision following a divorce can sometimes spiral out of control. It was Zsa Zsa Gabor who said “I’m an excellent housekeeper. Every time I get a divorce, I keep the house.” The media on many occasions features horror stories where couples spend tens of thousands of pounds arguing over who gets what and how much maintenance should be paid by one spouse to another. It does not have to be this way.
We provide a fixed price ancillary relief package which enables parties to know in advance what the legal costs are likely to be for dealing with matrimonial finances following divorce.
The process of resolving the financial arrangements on divorce has been broken down into four steps. At each stage we will try to negotiate a financial settlement for you in an attempt to avoid the next step. After the first step, during which both parties are required to give full, frank and accurate disclosure of all their financial and other relevant circumstances, we will then advise you on an appropriate financial settlement.
The fixed price service is suitable for the majority of people getting divorced who have a genuine desire to reach a sensible financial arrangement with their spouse and want to use the expertise and service of a solicitor whilst remaining in control of the costs.
This fixed price service is only available to customers with combined gross assets of below £300,000 and who do not have any assets outside England and Wales. If you have assets above this level it is likely that one of our solicitors will need to spend a greater amount of time dealing with your financial affairs so please contact your nearest office.
