At Brethertons we believe the key to success is our staff, making contributions to the community we live in, and caring for the environment we all share. We invest in these three areas to safeguard the future of everyone we care about, from staff, to suppliers, to deserving causes, the environment and of course, to our clients.
We define Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as being a responsible business that has a positive impact on our environment, our communities and our people. As such, we have a committee which is dedicated to the social responsibility of the firm.
The Wellbeing Committee aims to work collectively and collaboratively to ensure that Brethertons is being a responsible business that has a positive impact on our environment, our communities, our people and their wellbeing. Within each of these areas the purpose of the committee is outlined below:
- Environment – making a sustainable difference to our environment by developing policies and initiatives that reduce our carbon footprint for example by recycling materials, reducing our energy consumption
- Communities – developing and sharing information about our communities ensuring our workforce reflects the markets we serve, focusing on how we can actively and positively impact society for example via our charity work, community based activity, business connections and marketing events.
- People – putting collaboration, consultation and communication at the heart of what we do so people feel empowered, involved and engaged. This includes living our values, the health and well-being of our employees, celebrating diversity and innovation, embedding good governance, facilitating corporate cohesion across all offices.
- Wellbeing – The health and wellbeing of our Brethertonians is of paramount importance. As a committee, we commit to developing a focus on the wellbeing of our Brethertonians and ensuring that there is a programme of activities to address this.
Our Communities
We’re really proud to take an active part in supporting local charities and community initiatives, and think it’s important to keep in touch with our roots.
We also feel passionate about helping others less fortunate and actively support local and national causes and like to get involved in as many community initiatives as possible such as holding talks at local schools and hosting legal clinics.
At our Staff Conferences we ask our staff to nominate a ‘charity of choice’ to be our focus for the next 12+ months. We really enjoy helping to raise money for these charities and put on things like cake sales, fun runs, a staff tuck shop and even take part in the odd marathon!
Our Charity of Choice 2025/2026 is Maggie's. Maggie's offers the best possible support free to anyone with cancer and their families. Maggie's was founded by Maggie Keswick Jencks who used her experience of cancer to create a new type of cancer care-centres offering professional support, bringing people together in a calm, friendly, uplifting space. Read more about the amazing work they do here.
As a firm, what our clients say about us is the key to our success. We invite our clients to leave reviews of their experience with us on our Google and Trustpilot pages and we have pledged £10 per 5 star review we receive to our Charity of Choice up to £1000 per month!
Our Environment
We also passionately believe in helping to create a sustainable future for ourselves, the community and future generations, and through things like recycling, car sharing and the use of Fair Trade and environmentally friendly products in our offices, we feel we can make a difference. We are also on track to further reduce our paper usage. This is a key initiative across the firm and we always try to communicate electronically whenever it is possible to do so.
Our People
We provide a positive work environment for our people to support recruitment, retention and employee satisfaction. At Brethertons we promote a strong work-life balance with many of our ‘Brethertonians’ working flexible hours and with the ability to work from home.
Our CSR committee regularly organises social events and gatherings including a Brethertons book club and Netball Team!
