At Brethertons we believe the key to success is our staff, making contributions to the community we live in, and caring for the environment we all share. We invest in these three areas to safeguard the future of everyone we care about, from staff, to suppliers, to deserving causes, the environment and of course, to our clients.
We define Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as being a responsible business that has a positive impact on our environment, our communities and our people. As such, we have a committee which is dedicated to the social responsibility of the firm.
The purpose of our CSR committee is outlined below:
- Our Communities – developing and sharing information about our communities ensuring our workforce reflects the markets we serve, focusing on how we can actively and positively impact society for example via our charity work, community based activity, business connections and marketing events.
- Our Environment – making a sustainable difference to our environment by developing policies and initiatives that reduce our carbon footprint for example by recycling materials, reducing our energy consumption
- Our People – putting collaboration and communication at the heart of what we do so people feel empowered, involved and engaged. This includes living our values, the health and well-being of our employees, celebrating diversity and innovation, embedding good governance, facilitating corporate cohesion across all offices.
We’re really proud to take an active part in supporting local charities and community initiatives, and think it’s important to keep in touch with our roots.
We also feel passionate about helping others less fortunate and actively support local and national causes and like to get involved in as many community initiatives as possible such as holding talks at local schools and hosting legal clinics.
At our Staff Conferences we ask our staff to nominate a ‘charity of choice’ to be our focus for the next 12+ months. We really enjoy helping to raise money for these charities and put on things like cake sales, fun runs, a staff tuck shop and even take part in the odd marathon!
Our Charity of Choice 2022/2023 is GoalBall UK which is a charity that aims to transform the lives of partially sighted people through the sport of Goalball.
Goalball UK are driven to transform people’s lives through the sport by; building inclusive partnerships, creating safe and exciting opportunities, empowering through ownership, connecting people and creating positive communities for those that are blind and partially sighted. As a firm, what our clients say about us is the key to our success. We invite our clients to leave reviews of their experience with us on our Google and Trustpilot pages and we have pledged £10 per 5 star review we receive to our Charity of Choice up to £1000 per month!
We also passionately believe in helping to create a sustainable future for ourselves, the community and future generations, and through things like recycling, car sharing and the use of Fair Trade and environmentally friendly products in our offices, we feel we can make a difference. We are also on track to further reduce our paper usage. This is a key initiative across the firm and we always try to communicate electronically whenever it is possible to do so.
Our brand new 2023 Environmental Initiative will see us pledge to support the National Trust in planting an area of woodland based on the number of instructions we take here at Brethertons.
A single tree planted can remove as much a 1 tonne of CO2 from our air over its lifetime. This initiative will help offset our carbon footprint, and as well as helping to tackle climate change, the trees planted will also provide important shade and cover for woodland nature to thrive for future generations.
We provide a positive work environment for our people to support recruitment, retention and employee satisfaction. At Brethertons we promote a strong work-life balance with many of our ‘Brethertonians’ working flexible hours and with the ability to work from home.
Our CSR committee regularly organises social events and gatherings including a Brethertons book club and Netball Team!
