Kelly Bream

Kelly Bream, Berkeley Homes

Having started her career in Hospitality, Kelly went on to Graduate in Property Law and Estate Management at the University of Westminster and is now a Residential Management Surveyor.

After a short stint in Residential Sales Kelly moved into Asset Management where she oversaw a prestigious property portfolio in London. Working her way up to ‘Head of Property’ and taking her love of project management to the next level, Kelly moved to Berkeley Homes where she has been for nearly 6 years. Kelly is now the Operation and Customer Executive and forms part of the management team at Berkeley South East London. 

Kelly oversees an extensive team covering Estate Management, Development Logistics, predevelopment & mobilisation, Legal Structures & compliance, Customer experience and aftercare.

Andrew Bulmer, RICS

Andrew is the UK Residential Director at RICS and chairs the RICS Residential Professional Group Board and RICS Residential Property Management Group. His primary areas of expertise are residential block management, lettings and property management. Andrew would like RICS to make progress in the residential sector, improving standards and regulation across the industry to protect the consumer and bring RICS closer to its members. Andrew will talk about the work RICS performs and how changes in the industry are impacting upon regulations and practices.

Dan Harrison, Pier Management Limited (Regis Group)

After 5 years working in the block management industry, predominantly with Countrywide Estate Management, Dan was head hunted by Pier Management Ltd (a subsidiary of the Regis Group). The Regis Group are a large freehold investor with over 30,000 units across the UK, a rental portfolio of 800 units and further successful ventures in the US. Dan’s role was quickly focussed on overseeing the management of the freehold portfolio. The role is diverse and varies quite significantly from that of a traditional block manager; most of the properties are managed by third party companies so Dan spends much of his time managing the managing agents.

In addition to ensuring the properties are well managed and the leaseholders kept happy, focus is also placed upon the commercial aspects of acting for an investor client. Emphasis is placed upon stock retention and wherever reasonably practical the creation of additional revenue streams which allow the company to further invest.

Anthony Essien

Anthony Essien, Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE)

Anthony Essien is the Chief Executive of the Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE), an accredited mediator and qualified as a Barrister in the early 1990s. Before becoming Chief Executive of LEASE in 2007 he was Principal Legal Advisor. He has been involved in residential leasehold for over 20 years and is a regular speaker addressing leasehold matters in both the private and public sector, including appearances on radio and television.

Graham Allcot

Graham Allcott, Think Productive

Graham specialises in personal organisational systems, strategies to deal with the information overload and ‘action management’. Describing himself as a ‘too strategic to be organised’ person, Graham has trained himself to be productive throughout the development of personal workflow systems and developing the power of good habits.

Graham was previously a charity chief executive and it was his transition to freelance consultant and managing without a PA and a great team of ‘do-ers’ that inspired Think Productive. He began reading about workflow and productivity tools, and developing ways to ensure maximum productivity. Graham now runs 2 companies (the other being social enterprise consultancy, Fruitful Consulting), is Chair of international development charity READ International, a trustee of Centrepoint and an acoustic singer songwriter.

Alice Cadfan Lewis

Alice Cadfan-Lewis, Block Recruit

Alice started her career within property 17 years ago, recruiting for the Property and Facilities Management sectors. Finding the work rewarding Alice used her expertise in this field to set up and run PMR, an agency that is now a market leader in providing site-based concierge staff on a national basis. Searching for a new challenge Alice went on to establish Block Recruit, an agency specialising in Block Management Talent. The company has now doubled in size and prides itself on supplying the very best in talent to leading brands. Alice heads up the company but remains 'hands-on', ensuring that applicants remain motivated and feel supported from application to placement. Member of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals and ABIFM.

Alice will be chairing an informal, round-table discussion on recruitment vs retention.

Justin Bates, Arden Chambers

Justin is a barrister and the Deputy General Editor of the Encyclopaedia of Housing Law. He is fully conversant with all aspects of property litigation including forfeiture claims, property management disputes, service charge and enfranchisement matters. Justin will present talks throughout the weekend on technical topics relating to leasehold law.

Amanda Gourlay, Tanfield Chambers

Amanda came to the Bar after ten years in the travel industry, where her employment included negotiating contracts for a programme of holiday rental properties in Corsica. Amanda is the voice behind the award-winning “Law and Lease”, a blog recording and commenting on service charge decisions. Her expertise in landlord and tenant law embraces the right to manage, appointment of a manager, breaches of covenant and forfeiture.

Joff Gray, Information Commissioners Office

Joff joined the Information Commissioner’s Office (The ICO) in 2003 as a Case Officer, handling concerns raised by members of the public in relation to the Data Protection Act 1998.

Joff is now a Team Manager in the Improving Practice Department at the ICO, leading a team responding to concerns raised in the Lenders, Utilities, Telecoms and General Business sectors.  Joff will cover all aspects of Data Protection and what you need to know to avoid any pitfalls.

Henry Hopkins, Accelerator Solutions

Henry co-founded service leadership consultancy Accelerator Solutions in 2000 after a management career with high service international organisations such as Sony and Hertz.  He is focused on helping businesses realise the potential of using excellent service as an enabler of business growth.  His experience covers a wide range of sectors, including commercial and residential property, serviced offices and social housing. 

Henry is also a regular conference speaker, provoking thought, debate and understanding about the essential factors in creating a true Customer Service Culture.

Gary Bovan

Gary Bovan, High Court Enforcement Group

Gary is an authorised High Court Enforcement Officer, working within the largest independently owned enforcement company in England and Wales.

He entered the industry in 1986 and has specialised in residential evictions, gaining a great respect within this field with his practical approach to enforcement. He recently worked on the education team of the High Court Enforcement Officers Associations, ensuring a high standard of knowledge, integrity and professionalism is maintained throughout the enforcement industry.

He will be delivering a presentation on the new process of eviction and no doubt a few war stories. He will be around all weekend for any enforcement matters.

Jodie Horgan

Jodie Horgan, Pi-Property Insurance

Jodie Horgan is a Senior Manager at Pi-Property Insurance and has been working in the insurance industry for 15 years, 11 of which have been at Pi-Property. She has an array of experience including claims, marketing, broking sales and relationship management, both with key clients and major suppliers.

Jodie has played an instrumental part in the growth and success of the business. In between running and spin classes Jodie likes to spend her time with her shoes and handbags (and her family)!

 

Jason Oldham

Jason Oldham, Pi-Property Insurance

Jason Oldham ACII is a Chartered Broker with over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry holding a variety of roles including broking, underwriting, sales and account management. Jason’s responsibilities include the Pi-Property Claims Team, negotiation of bespoke policy wordings with key insurer partners and overseeing insurer relations. Due to his love of food Jason has become a keen cyclist (when his children allow)!

Gemma Edwards

Gemma Edwards, PKF Cooper Parry

Having over 10 years property accounting experience, Gemma has dealt with both commercial and residential properties within the UK and Europe. The majority of her experience has been gained by working directly within a managing agent environment, providing client accounting expertise and production of full management accounts for a prestigious European Retail Client. After a successful career at one of the UKs largest real estate firms, Gemma moved in to practice where she can focus solely on Service Charge Accounts. As a Service Charge Manager at PKF Cooper Parry, she provides onsite property finance advice for her clients and is heavily involved in implementing a bespoke operational workflow system across their managing agent clients. Gemma is passionate about making a difference within the property sector and providing her clients with sound accounting knowledge, ensuring she is fully compliant with all of her client’s complex reporting needs.

Gavin Whitehouse

Gavin Whitehouse, PKF Cooper Parry

Having over 25 years’ service charge experience, Gavin is a Chartered Accountant, Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and a Member of the Institute of Residential Property As Head of Service Charge Accounting at PKF Cooper Parry, he oversees all certification and advisory services and provides support and consultancy services to landlords and managing agents in both the residential and commercial sectors. Gavin believes strongly in raising accountancy standards in the property sector and minimising risk for landlords and managing agents.

 

Roger Hardwick, Brethertons

Roger is a property Solicitor specialising in residential leasehold property law. His work includes statutory lease extension, collective enfranchisement and right to manage claims; freehold acquisitions under the Leasehold Reform Act 1967; ground rent portfolio sales and purchases; residential service charge disputes; and applications to the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber).

Nigel joined ARMA as Chief Executive Officer in April 2016 following a varied and highly successful career in senior executive positions, including a software business start-up, investment banking, and co-founder and director for a residential property management firm. Nigel’s main responsibility is the longer term strategy and direction of ARMA and representing the Association to the outside world, particularly concerning legislation and policy.

 

Brian Auld, Brethertons

Brian is the Company Commercial Partner and advises clients on all aspects of Company law, ranging from standard trading terms to business acquisitions and sales. Brian has many years experience of working as an in-house lawyer for companies in the IT sector including Toshiba, as well as for the European Commission in Brussels.

 

Katherine Cereghino, Brethertons

As a Solicitor in our Company Commercial team, Katherine helps businesses to navigate their way through the English legal system. Katherine specialises in all areas of company law including business sales and acquisitions, supplier contracts and e-commerce arrangements.

 

Claire Halle-Smith, Brethertons

Claire is a Solicitor in our Company Commercial team. Along with general commercial work, Claire's expertise includes Data Protection compliance and training and risk management. Claire has many years experience working with Local Authorities and other care providers from her time as an in-house Solicitor for a company that provided a range of social care services both in the UK and internationally.

 

Amy Edwards, Brethertons

Amy is an Associate Solicitor in our Employment team and advises clients on all types of employment matters ranging from drafting and implementing terms and conditions of employment to structural reorganisations. Amy has significant experience supporting internal HR teams in managing employee relation matters as well as supporting workplace reorganisations and representing clients during employment tribunal proceedings. 

 
 

Nadiya Virani-Bland, Brethertons

Nadiya is a Partner and Head of the Wills, Trusts and Probate team and assists clients who need to look at planning for the future using Wills, Powers of Attorney and Trusts and assists in dealing with Probate applications for clients.

Nadiya regularly presents seminars for MENCAP and webinars for the Law Society as well as being a member of the Lexis Nexis Consultant Editorial Board where she consults on the main issues facing clients on a regular basis.
