Looking ahead to England's next game

  • Posted

As I write this, the England rugby team will be preparing for their next battle against the strong Welsh side that overwhelmed Uruguay (54 - 9!) last weekend. Stuart Lancaster’s squad contains a few changes, most notably the inclusion of Owen Farrell at fly-half which will give the team a boost of experience (Farrell is a creaky 24 years old and George Ford, whom he replaces, is wet behind the ears at 22) for the match on Saturday evening.

In the office, we’re really getting into the swing of things and there are some fierce rivalries being unearthed! We, too, have been preparing for the tournament and putting our national differences aside to come together and focus on the important things. Things like, whose turn it is to make the coffee and how to manage the office sweepstake. All joking aside, the World Cup has given us the perfect opportunity to celebrate all that’s great about the game and the spirit of teamwork in general.

We’re partnering with our charity of the year, SpecialEffect, to organise an exclusive one-off event to honour the occasion. On 22 October, we’re excited to be hosting representatives from different areas of the game throughout the ages; an ex-player – David Duckham and a current player – Tom Stephenson who will share their stories and experiences of the game and take part in an exclusive Q&A session at the Rugby Football Club Clubhouse on Webb Ellis Road.

SpecialEffect, a charity based near Witney in Oxfordshire that helps people with physical disabilities put fun and inclusion back into their lives by helping them play video games will join us at event, and will be running an auction for a rugby-related prize. They will also have their gaming equipment set up to encourage some friendly competition!
