Partner and Head of Family Law, Rugby
I am an experienced Solicitor and Head of Practice Area for Wills, Trusts and Probate.
I provide advice in relation to the preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection applications to include Deputy appointments and removal of incapacitated trustees, Trusts (to include the creation, taxation and administration), Administration of Estates (including claims for agricultural and business relief) and tax planning to include Inheritance Tax, Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax.
I have a particular interest in acting for clients wishing to preserve assets for future generations and planning and for farming and business owners concerned about the succession aspects of their estates.
I qualified as a Solicitor in 2007 in my hometown of Poole, Dorset. I have more recently worked at national firms Clarke Willmott LLP and Knights 1759 in Southampton and Oxford respectively. I am also a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE).
I pride myself on producing effective, practical solutions to complex and technical issues and presenting them in a clear and understandable manner. In addition, I endeavour to build long standing relationships with clients and their families and fellow professionals with whom I frequently come into contact with.
I have successfully negotiated with HMRC in relation to an underused exemption to inheritance tax where it can be demonstrated that the death of a member of the armed services can be linked to active war service. The result of such negotiations ensured a figure of in excess of £600k was repaid to the beneficiaries of a deceased’s estate.
I have valuable experience in working with clients and their families when situations either become litigious or appear to be heading in that direction to include potential claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. In particular, my experience extends to cases of lack of financial provision being made either under a will or the intestacy provisions and with the use of a Deed of Variation redistributing the estate.
Outside of work my wife and I are kept busy by our first child Amelie born in March 2017. In addition I am a keen football supporter and follow AFC Bournemouth. Finally, I have been fortunate during a gap year to have travelled through much of Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South America.
