1. How long have you been at Brethertons?
A little over six years. I will be celebrating my seventh anniversary in September 2020.
2. What career path have you taken so far?
I have a law degree from Coventry University; after my degree I studied the Legal Practice Course full-time at the University of Law in Birmingham. During my time studying, I successfully gained legal work experience via pro-bono work and law firm placements and commercial work experience through business placements and a part-time job in retail. The skills and intelligence gained were really valuable in helping me decide what I wanted to do and assisted me in successfully obtaining my job at Brethertons LLP. I started as a Legal Assistant in our Property Management Team; I have also worked as a para-legal in our Dispute Resolution Team and Residential Leasehold Team. I applied internally for the firm’s Traineeship (Training Contract) after a year of working at the firm and I was successful. My Traineeship helped me decide what I want to do and I haven’t really looked back. I work in our Residential Conveyancing Team in Banbury. I was promoted to an Associate Technical Specialist this year (after an internal application and interview process).
3. What attracted you to Brethertons?
Local firm to me and I had only heard good feedback from family and friends. The reputation spoke for itself and I wanted to start my career at a place where I could grow my great reputation and add to their success.
4. What has kept you at Brethertons?
My career has really taken off; I am still riding this wave with the firm and I am very grateful for the initial opportunity. Most importantly, I work with a fantastic group of people. We all support and care for each other.
5. As an Associate (TS) at Brethertons, what do you do?
I work cases that are in my name and I deal with the complex files and title checking for my colleagues in the team. I primarily deal with sales and purchases of all types of residential properties, Transfers of Equity, Re-mortgages and Help to Buy Equity Loan redemptions. I am in a client-facing role; I manage doing the work and being available for my clients to communicate with me directly via telephone calls, emails and drop-in meetings. I also have an element of business development in my current role.
6. What is the highlight of your career at Brethertons so far?
My Traineeship and becoming a Solicitor. It was my goal for so very long. Training contracts can feel like gold-dust when you’re trying to get one. I still remember the message I sent to my family after finding out my application had been successful. I am reminded of how excited and elated I felt. I am very proud to be admitted to the roll of Solicitors in England and Wales.
7. What is the best thing about your role?
Helping people at a very important time for them. I hear the cliché but it’s true. I have a lot of respect and care for everyone I work for.
8. What do you enjoy most about working at Brethertons?
The people. We are a friendly and funny bunch of experts. I have a lot of great memories and I hope to make many more.
