Starting an Apprenticeship

Author: Charlotte Ogilvie

This week we celebrate National Apprenticeship week by highlighting the stories of some of the apprentices who have started their careers at Brethertons and the different paths they have chosen following completion of their qualifications.  We are proud of the investment we make into those starting their careers, and the support we provide to them and all employees in their roles at Brethertons from apprenticeships through to Partnership and Senior Management.

Charlotte Ogilvie is currently a Legal Assistant in our Property Management team and is about to start an Apprenticeship in our Marketing team. Here she talks about her experience at Brethertons, and what attracted her to the role in Marketing as an Apprentice.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself, what has your career looked like so far?

I’ve been working with Brethertons now for nearly 18 months. I’ve always had a desire to work in marketing/events so when this opportunity came up I was really excited.

2. What made you decide to apply for an Apprenticeship in Marketing?

Having not gone to University, I wanted a way to gain experience and a qualification that would look good to future employers. It’s a way to gain the knowledge I need for a career in marketing whilst learning on the job.

3. What are you most excited about when you start your apprenticeship?

I’m looking forward to working with a team who share my interest in marketing and to learn from them. I’m excited to study in something I’m interested in, but don’t have a huge amount of knowledge in yet.

4. How are you feeling about working whilst studying?

I’m hoping I will find the studying side manageable whilst working. I’m lucky to have been allowed a study day to focus on coursework which I will definitely be utilising.

5. What do you most enjoy about working at Brethertons?

I love the people at Brethertons, everyone is so friendly and the environment to work within is great.

6. Have you considered your career options following your Apprenticeship? Where would you like to go?

Following on from my apprenticeship I would love to work full time in marketing and events. Long term my career aspirations are to work within a PR department.
