International Womens Day

  • Posted

International Women's Day (IWD) on 8th March 2019 celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and also continues to campaign for gender parity. In 2016, Lexis Nexis blogged about women in the legal profession stating ‘Just one in five partners in top-20 firms is a woman, and just eight hold senior management roles in the top 50 firms’*.

As stated on the International Womens Day website, ‘Balance is not a women’s issue, it’s a business issue’. At Brethertons we are proud of the steps we take to ensure opportunities are available for all of our employees, and are also open to feedback to help guide us in what more we could be doing. We are proud to be able to share the following facts about the firm which you may find particularly interesting today:

  • Women hold 3 out of 4 roles on our Executive Committee. Our COO and Deputy CEO, Director of Property and Commercial, and Director of Private Client are all women
  • 7 out of the 15 of individuals holding a ‘Director’ or ‘Head of’ role at Brethertons are women. This includes individuals who head up legal practice areas and our operations teams
  • Over 1/3 of our Partners at Brethertons are women
  • We hold Investors in People ‘Gold’ standard – and have held this for 6 years!
  • 40% of our Employees work flexible hours. Work-life balance is important to us at Brethertons. We have great people doing great things, and we are happy to provide working hours and arrangements that suit their needs – both men and women
  • We are able to offer our employees part time hours, flexible working patterns, flexible office arrangements and working from home

At Brethertons, we are fully committed to each and every one of our employees achieving their full potential. We firmly believe in the capabilities of both men and women, and are eager to be flexible and support our employees where possible to achieve greatness. We have a clear progression structure, and have removed structural barriers to progression. If career development is essential to you, you have the power to do this at a pace and pathway that works best for you.
