Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at Brethertons!

  • Posted

This year, in the season of goodwill, instead of sending out ubiquitous cards, bottles of wine or boxes of chocolates we’ve decided to put our energy to a different use – both near to home and much further away!

Each year, our staff at Brethertons undertake to nominate a very special Charity of the Year which we support in both financial terms and in kind throughout the year.

In April this year, SpecialEffect was named as Brethertons' Charity of the Year 2015/16. Ever since, staff and friends of the firm have been actively raising funds for this amazing and innovative charity which helps transform the lives and wellbeing of people with physical disabilities by enabling them to play video games using equipment tailored to their individual needs.

As you can see from our pictures and on our Facebook page - from cake sales, dress down days and even dress down weeks, to half-marathons, a pub quiz, a comedy night and various expeditions, the Brethertons team strives to go the extra mile!

As always, the dedication, passion and energy of our staff this year has been incredible. Their efforts and support will undoubtedly help SpecialEffect continue to provide their extraordinary services and support to those in need. We are incredibly proud of our association with the wonderful team at SpecialEffect.

As well as helping people locally, we wanted to extend our efforts and support further afield. After considering a number of deserving causes, we’ve decided to support an international aid project through the Banbury Rotary Club. The project was founded by Alan Wolstencroft over ten years ago. Those of you who’ve been to our networking clubs may know Alan as a committed humanitarian helping to make a difference to communities in Sierra Leone. Alan’s initiative, Alan’s Africa, has pledged to fund and build a classroom and toilet block for the Good News Pentecostal Community near Freetown.

This community currently has one small hall which doubles as a church and school house. Around 100 children share this room, with three classes being run at the same time. As well as the cramped conditions in the school, the hall is surrounded by 20 houses which all share just one single toilet. They now need urgent help to build more toilets and upgrade the hall to make it suitable for learning.

Our donation will enable this worthy cause to build the classroom and also fit it out with desks, benches, blackboards, noticeboards and all the other equipment needed to run a successful school. You can read more about the project on the Alan’s Africa website.

Both of these ventures fully support and bring to life the ethos behind The Knowledge Within, which is a key strand of the our brand and the foundation of our corporate social responsibility mission.

Having spoken to several of our clients about these great projects we have been further inspired by your enthusiasm for these worthwhile causes. Therefore, taking the initiative this year in 2015, and turning our efforts and resource to supporting these truly worthwhile causes seemed to us the right thing to do. We really do hope you will agree!

Thank you so much for your continued support in 2015 and may we take this opportunity to wish you a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
