Remember A Charity Week 2022

We are supporting ‘Remember A Charity Week’ from 5-11th September 2022 across all three of our offices in Banbury, Bicester and Rugby.

“Remember A Charity Week,” is about reminding clients they might consider including a gift in their Will to a charity they care about, after taking care of family and loved ones. Gifts bestowed as a result of a Will can make a huge difference to charities and the success of their work and it really couldn’t be simpler.

Charities are often grateful for any type of donation; whether it be a specific sum of money, a particular item or a share of the estate.

Leaving a gift in your Will might also benefit your estate from a tax perspective. Gifts left to charities in a Will are inheritance tax (IHT) free. In addition, if a person leaves at least 10% of their estate to charity, the IHT charge for the parts of the estate not left to charities (or your spouse) is reduced from 40% to 36%. So not only will it give you comfort in supporting a charity that matters to you, you could even reduce the IHT bill for the rest of your beneficiaries too!

When leaving a gift in your Will, it is important to quote the charity number, so that there is no confusion about which charity you intend to gift to, particularly if the name of the charity changes over the years. You can talk to your solicitor about this at Brethertons when you meet them and they will be delighted to help.

Whether you are considering leaving a gift to charity in your Will, or incorporating some charitable gifting, come and talk to us about your options by contacting our highly experienced and friendly Wills, Trusts and Probate team on 01788 557722 or email sarahhorton@brethertons.co.uk

Remember A Charity was formed in the year 2000 as a consortium of charities working to encourage more people to consider leaving a gift to charity in their Will. A representative voice for the sector with over 200 charity members, the campaign works with Government, the legal profession, and employers to help normalise legacy giving. Remember A Charity is part of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, which is incorporated by Royal Charter (RC000910) and is a charity registered in England and Wales (No. 1188764) and Scotland (No. SC050060).
