How we can work with your business

We recognise that how we communicate and interact with you on a day-to-day basis is as important to you as the knowledge and support that we offer.

Our specialist knowledge is why you come to us. Our transparent customer focused approach assures us you will stay. This ethos extends to our engagement and payment options.

Annual Subscription (‘Retainer’)

The ability to budget for a fixed expenditure each year, and to obtain best value, may be critical to you. If so, our annual subscriptions provide cost certainty and permit access to our employment lawyers, as and when required, at reduced cost. You will benefit from tailored legal advice and may also benefit from free additional services, such as employment healthchecks. With payment spread across a (typical) 12 month retainer period, you can pick up the phone or send an email without any nasty shocks, safe in the knowledge that your retainer covers ad hoc consultancy. We would be pleased to discuss the various subscription arrangements available and your individual requirements.

Traditional Time Basis (Pay as you go)

If your need is variable (perhaps project-based) or you require one-off support, then you may find best value instructing us on a traditional time basis. Our charges will be clearly explained to you and you will be kept appraised of costs as often as you wish. We are flexible in our approach to charging and will always seek to agree a suitable team for each project to maximise value.

Agreed Fee

Whilst not every matter is suited to fixed fees, we recognise that you value transparent and coherent charging and we will work with you to agree our fees, in advance, whenever possible. We will discuss this with you openly at the outset. Agreed fees take many different forms and we are happy to be creative in their application to address your needs.

You may have the benefit of a commercial practices insurance policy, if so, our fees might be covered by that policy. It would be a good idea to check the terms of your insurance policies to see if this is an option for you. If you don’t already have a policy of this kind, but would like to find out more, let us know.

If you would like to discuss something a little different, we would be delighted to discuss a bespoke arrangement with you.

Whichever route you decide to take, we will be open, honest and fair in our charges. You can expect to be clear upon where you stand from the outset and throughout the course of your matter.

And it works both ways. If you have any concerns or query about our fees then talk to us; we’ll listen and we’ll work through it with you.

We also like to keep in touch with you between projects. Becoming a customer of Brethertons gives you access to regular training and update information. We would encourage you to join us for our Employment Law webinars and or become a member of our HR Club – a quarterly networking group for HR professionals. Our Brethertons Buzz: Commercial newsletter and regular ‘bitesize bulletins’ are also a great way of getting the most up to date and relevant employment law news.
