There has been a lot going on in our busy spinal injuries team in recent months. Aside our office move (Banbury to Rugby) and a changeover in our administration team (fond farewells to Lisa and Emma, warm welcomes to Julie and Anne-Marie) and all that entails we have been busy with new enquiries, progressing ongoing cases in litigation and tidying up settled cases at detailed assessment.
A particular highlight was a Senior Costs Master recognising that a particularly difficult and expensive case (for the Defendant who ended up paying costs to the Claimant) was so because of the complex issues involved. The Master indicated this particular case had involved the most difficult accommodation claim he had seen – and he had seen a lot. The claim had involved recovering compensation for a young man who had suffered a high level spinal cord injury which left him tetraplegic. The accommodation aspect of the claim included adaptations to the parental home and subsequent ‘whole life’ accommodation needs and plans being taken in to account.
We are also really pleased to be continuing our work within the wider spinal cord injuries community. Our sponsorship of the peer support service the SIA provides is very important as is our relationship with the Spinal Injuries Association. We were in Westminster for the launch of the Strike a Cord campaign recently. But we are particularly thrilled that another project we are working on is making such a huge difference for those who have suffered spinal cord injury and their families during their transition through the rehabilitation process and move back home. We hope to be able to reveal more on that later this year, but taking rehabilitation outside of the hospital environment and enabling people to tackle the world outside hospital during rehabilitation is a key part of that and very much something that is making a huge and positive difference.
