Historic week for Brethertons

  • Posted

The first few weeks of the new financial year has been an historic time for Brethertons. We have witnessed the retirement of the firm’s last ever Senior Partner, and the appointment of two new Equity Partners and 9 new Associates. The changes come after a huge period of growth and development.

Former Senior Partner, Richard Pell, has retired after 35 years with Brethertons. Richard joined the firm in 1980 and worked alongside his father, Montague, in a long-standing family affiliation with the legal profession. Richard has seen enormous change during his time at the firm, recently overseeing a move to a large, modern, eco-friendly office in Rugby town centre which has meeting rooms named after both him and his father. Richard will remain as a Consultant at Brethertons, giving the firm the benefit of his knowledge and experience.

Also this week, Deborah Atkins (Head of HR) and Alison McCormack (Head of Client Services) have accepted invitations to join the ownership of the firm as Equity Partners. Both Deborah and Alison are business management professionals and are the first Equity Partners not to hold legal qualifications as solicitors.

Shaun Jardine, Chief Executive Officer at the firm said: “Both Alison and Deborah bring a huge amount of non-legal professional business management expertise to the partnership. Expertise that we could not do without. The Equity Partners are delighted that they have accepted the invitation and everyone at Brethertons wishes them, and Richard, great success in their endeavours.”

Elsewhere, nine members of staff have been promoted to the role of Associate; an accolade which recognises expertise, depth of knowledge, commitment and dedication to the role. John Doughty (Family Solicitor), Angela Guess (Commercial Property Solicitor), Lindsey Gutteridge (Private Client Solicitor), Lorna Monks (Property Management Debt Recovery Manager), Ken Norman (Key Client Manager), Gareth Raisbeck (Litigation Solicitor), Karina Ray (Key Client Manager), Emma Stewart (Private Client Solicitor) and Dominic Wisdom (Family Solicitor) are thrilled to have had their contributions recognised by the Management Team.

Deborah Atkins praised the new Associates: “This is a great achievement for our colleagues. We take great pleasure in celebrating their promotion with them and hope that they continue to thrive in this new role.”

Shaun concludes: “We’re delighted to have made these new appointments. They come at a time when Brethertons is going through huge development in terms of facilities and IT infrastructure. We have always known that it’s our staff that make Brethertons what it is; by recognising and rewarding our colleagues, we will continue to be successful and grow as a business.”
