Brethertons boys boogie on down in Banbury and Bicester

  • Posted

Two of our staff members have both signed up for Strictly Bicester and Strictly Banbury. Bicester Managing Partner, Steven Neasham and Banbury based Key Client Manager, Ken Norman have both donned their dancing shoes and frilly shirts to join forces with Step-by-Step Dance School for these annual competitions.

Step-by-Step organises the events across three counties to raise funds for charity and has helped raise over £500,000 in the last five years.

Steven Neasham danced at Bicester Community College on 18 and 19 April raising over £800 for the Hummingbird Centre whilst Ken dances at The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury on 2 and 3 May for the RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) and the Friends of Frank Wise School.

Strictly Bicester

Steven said, “Taking part in Strictly Bicester was one of the most thrilling things I have ever done in my life and one I would recommend to anyone who is prepared to have a go. The two month training period seems a long time but goes very quickly! I had not done any structured dancing since I was a teenager (a long time ago!) so having to learn a Latin Cha-Cha and a Ballroom Quickstep was out of my comfort zone. However everyone managed by the time the shows were performed. Although, my dance partner and I were not in the top half of the talent we did manage to get through to the final 6 couples for the dance off on the Saturday night. This was thanks to the votes of my friends and colleagues in the audience. Now back to the day job and reality!”

Ken added, “It’s been six weeks of hard work, blisters and laughter. As someone who rarely sets foot on a dance floor I found even the simplest of steps difficult to learn at first. But with perseverance, patience and encouragement from my partner and the trainers I now have a Jive and an American Smooth Wattz under my belt. I’m actually looking forward to the competition, an event that I was initially dreading! Having said that I don’t think I’ll be troubling the leaderboard.”
