Notes to Users with Disabilities

We have added information to our Web pages which we feel will help users who require special browsers to use the internet to work more effectively. In doing this we have followed guidlines set out by CAST. Founded in 1984 as the Center for Applied Special Technology, CAST is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to expand opportunities for people with disabilities through innovative uses of computer technology.

Features of this site

  • For users who are blind or require the use of a screen reader - All images contain a short alternative text description that represents the function of the graphic.
  • For users who do not use a mouse - It is possible to tab through all of the links from the top of the screen to the bottom, using the carriage return button to select a link.
  • For users who cannot differentiate between colours - When the mouse is pointed at an active link, the link becomes bold.
  • Ease of navigation - The same link phrases and headings are used in each department. Also, the creation of new windows is kept to a minimum. This provides consistency and reduces disorientation
