The English Golf Union (EGU) has joined forces with LawSense to encourage members to make a Will and to consider leaving a legacy to their local club, County or the EGU itself.
Following their presentation at the County Secretaries Meeting, Lawsense will now be contacting individual Counties to explain the benefits and to see whether your County would like to be issued with its own unique code.
What is LawSense?
• Online legal service that has been developed by Brethertons LLP solicitors
• Enables members to create Wills online from their home or office and then submit the document online to Brethertons for legal review;
• Range of Wills to meet different personal circumstances;
• Professionally prepared documents reviewed by qualified Solicitors specialising in Wills;
• Cost effective and efficient way for your supporter to prepare a Will
Why sign up?
• Completely free for your County – the member pays at the point the Will is purchased;
• Your County will be issued with its own unique code so that when a member of your County submits their Will, LawSense will instantly recognise that they are a member of your County;
• This will enable the Solicitor to ask the member whether they wish to leave a legacy to your County;
• With your member’s consent, LawSense can tell you whether a legacy has been left to your County;
• Use of unique code will enable Lawsense to provide information to Counties regarding the effectiveness of the scheme to target future legacy givers.
Why are legacies important?
• Only 7% of people actually leave a legacy to charity/favourite organisations but when asked, 35% said that they would have had they thought of this at the time they completed their Will
• Legacy Foresight Research indicates that by 2050, legacy income will be worth £5.3 billion
• You can leave a legacy of any size to any organisation you choose so why not encourage your members to support your County
What happens next?
We recommend that you take a look at LawSense's website and take advantage of the ‘try before you buy’ option to see how the Will creation process works.
The next step is then to communicate with your members via your County's website, putting a direct link to www.lawsense.co.uk. You can also use promotional literature to spread the word at County events or meetings.
