STEP 2 Directions

This service is available to you if either Step 1 has failed and agreement has not been reached or you have exchanged financial information with your spouse and tried to negotiate a settlement directly.

What is included in the Step 2 service?

We will issue Court proceedings on your behalf, update fully your financial disclosure to place it on the Court file and send to your Spouse’s Solicitors.  We will raise suitable questions of your Spouse on their disclosure; prepare a schedule of Issues, chronology, schedule of assets and costs estimates forms.  We will send all these documents to the Court and your Spouse’s Solicitors.  We will consider their corresponding documents and advise you accordingly.  We will represent you at Court.  If your Court is not local to us then we reserve the right to instruct a Barrister or a local Solicitor to attend on your behalf at extra cost to you.

This step is often known as the “housekeeping step” when we are working hard to get all necessary information to allow the Court to make a decision in respect of your case.

What is not included in Step 2 service?

The fixed price Step 2 service does not include any work in relation to the divorce or any children issues or any conveyancing work necessary to implement an agreement.

How do I order and pay for the Step 2 service?

The fixed price for Step 2 is £2,000 plus VAT, or £1500 plus VAT if you have been advised by us using Step 1, but does not include Court fees or any other professional fees that may need to be incurred, such as valuation of property, a valuation of pensions, Barristers fees or Court fees.  It does not include any extra court applications that may need to be made during the process.

We are happy to accept payments by instalments:-

  • Payment of £1,000 plus VAT plus the Court fee of £240 when we issue the proceedings
  • Payment of £1,000 plus VAT on exchange of financial disclosure.

Through Lloyds TSB Bank we are also able to help put you in touch with a bank representative that could arrange a personal loan for you to pay for the divorce, which you can pay back out of any financial settlement that you receive when these proceedings are concluded. Many clients use this facility to help them with the payments.
