London to Birmingham High-Speed Rail Link
Free Seminar: Understanding The Planning and Compensation Implications

As you will no doubt be aware, Lord Adonis recently launched the Government’s detailed plans for a high-speed railway link to be constructed between London and Birmingham. Plans showing the exact route of the proposed link can be viewed at the Department for Transport website at www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/rail/pi/highspeedrail/hs2ltd/route/ and if you have not already done so, I would recommend that you inspect the plans to see how the proposed route may affect your property.

A period of public consultation will open in the autumn before the final route is determined; however with all three main political parties backing the idea of the high speed railway and work due to begin by 2017, it is likely that the link will be constructed along or near to the proposed route.
There may only be a limited scope to alter the proposed route; however this does not mean to say that there are not other steps available to landowners and farmers that they can take at this stage. Action can be taken now to ensure that the appropriate compensation is paid in due course in order to mitigate potential losses as far as is possible.

While 2017 may seem quite some time away at the moment, it is very important that steps are taken now to help mitigate losses that farmers and landowners may suffer.

On Thursday 13th May, we are holding a free seminar in order to explain some of the legal implications of the high-speed rail scheme. We are fortunate to have secured the services of Wayne Beglan and Bob Thompson to speak at this event. Wayne is an experienced planning barrister and Bob is an experienced agricultural surveyor who has dealt with many compulsory purchase cases.
