Information Technology

As a business, you need to correctly regulate the use of Information Technology (IT) and have written procedures in place for its internal and external use. We can help you to achieve this and therefore make your business compliant and protected in this area.

Internal Use of IT
Internal use should be controlled by an IT policy. Many businesses take the view that technology is provided for better business performance and, in the same way that post, photocopiers, cars and phones have private use restrictions on them, private use should be the exception rather than the rule. We can help you introduce an employee IT policy outlining acceptable use and mis-use parameters.

External Use of IT
As far as the external use of technology goes, this is very closely linked to Intellectual Property. Fundamentals such as the registration and use of domain names need to be carefully considered. A variety of IT agreements should be considered to regulate the licensing and developing of hardware and software.

Other issues for you to consider carefully and create contracts for include:

  • website design, support
  • ownership of the material on the site
  • level of support and portability of the site by access to source code; and
  • Data Protection Legislation compliance.
