What is AIM?

AIM is an international market for growing companies.  It is not purely for venture-seeking companies and entrepreneurs, it can also suit mature and established private companies looking to expand into different markets, or who seek an alternative to a main listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

Since its launch in 1995, there has been over 3,000 companies that have floated on the AIM market.  It is a regulated market with a favourable tax status which makes it popular for UK and overseas companies alike.

The criteria for joining AIM includes appointing a Nominated Adviser (NOMAD) who will help with ongoing compliance issues and documentation for the listing.  You will also need advice from a broker and a lawyer, a reporting accountant, plus other consultants if they are considered important by the NOMAD.  The whole process to float on AIM takes about 4-5 months and it is a team effort between the board of your company and your advisers to make it happen.
