Our Employment Law Services

As a firm we are committed to providing legal services in innovative ways, and our employment lawyers will ensure that your business receives the advice that it needs, when it needs it, and in a form that is easy to understand and implement. We also understand that you need to budget and our fee structures and options reflect this.

Innovation- We recognise that each of our clients has different needs and we make every effort to offer and develop bespoke services where possible. We believe that to support your business in the best way possible, the manner in which your legal services are delivered demands innovation and we practice what we preach. Our development of 24hr downloadable employment contracts and documentation is evidence of this client-focused approach.

Mobile - Our employment solicitors are mobile and operate from our offices in Banbury and Rugby. We regularly appear in the Midlands and London employment tribunals and represent clients as far afield as the West Country.

Bespoke - The key services that our employment solicitors provide are set out below. However we are always happy to discuss with you your individual requirements and to develop bespoke services to meet your specific business needs.

Key Services

Telephone/ Email Support Line: If you have a query in relation to an employment matter, our solicitors are available to provide the advice that you need by telephone  or by email.  Other than certain formalities that we are required to comply with by law, we understand that not all of our clients require lengthy written advice and that often a quick and pragmatic response is in order. Whether you are a Human Resources Manager who needs advice on a tricky employee matter, or a business owner who requires practical assistance with staffing issues, we will be happy to provide the answers to your questions and we would be pleased to receive your call or email. If you are likely to need more regular advice and support, we would be pleased to agree a consistent point of contact and can offer various agreed-fee arrangements for employment helpline advice.

General Advice & Support: Some matters inevitably require more than a simple chat on the phone, or a quick email and we are, of course, pleased to provide employment law advice in a more traditional fashion, whether you have a one-off problem or require a dependable employment law advisor on a regular basis. Our employment solicitors are experienced specialists and can advise and assist you with all aspects of the employment relationship. Commonly this includes reviewing, drafting and implementing contracts of employment and internal employment policies (including negotiating variations to existing contracts and policies), assisting with internal grievance and disciplinary processes, advising on contractual obligations and the imposition and enforcement of restrictive covenants,  dismissals (including redundancy procedures) and ensuring your business’ compliance with anti-discrimination legislation and equal opportunity requirements.

Employment Tribunal Representation: We recognise that employment tribunal claims can be unavoidable and costly, but our specialist employment lawyers are here to simplify the process for you. Our employment team will offer you robust, consistent and down-to-earth advice and representation throughout the entire process (from initial enquiry and drafting of pleadings through to hearing), in all employment-related matters. This includes advising and representing in the defence of claims such as unfair dismissal, age/ sex/ race/ disability discrimination, equality matters, and TUPE related dismissals, to identify a few common problems. Our employment solicitors understand the time and resources required to defend employment tribunal claims and recognise that in many cases an informed commercial approach can be preferable. Our client can also Insure against Employment Tribunal Claims.

Compromise Agreements & Terminations: There may be occasions when it is desirable and/or commercially sensible for your business to sever ties with an employee and to terminate employment swiftly (even if that dismissal would be unfair). In these circumstances, you will need clear advice on the impact of the proposed termination on restrictive covenants and your potential exposure to unfair dismissal/ breach of contract and other similar claims, so that you can properly assess the risks and make an informed judgment on the appropriate course of action. This can involve the negotiation and agreement of a severance package and our employment team is available to draft and advise upon the use of compromise agreements in these circumstances. We would also promote the use of compromise agreements in redundancy situations to offer certainty as to future claims.

Employment Documentation/ Compliance: Employment legislation is evolving rapidly and we believe that it is essential that all businesses have in place (as a very minimum) contracts of employment for their staff and basic written employment policies and procedures. With the advent of the Equality Act 2010, it is also time to consider a wholesale review of the policies and procedures that you already have in place. Recruitment and induction documentation in particular can easily fall foul of the new legislation and result in sizeable awards for discrimination. Whether you are starting from scratch or already have comprehensive documentation in place, our employment solicitors have the expertise to ensure that your employment documents are fit for purpose (having particular regard to your business and industry sector – including consideration of the enforceability of restrictive covenants) and also compliant. Less bespoke documents are also available for you to download from our online resource, which is available 24 hours a day.

Staff Training: We recognise that prevention is preferable to cure and our experience informs us that staff training can considerably reduce your business’ exposure to employment issues and costly employment tribunal complaints.  Up-front investment in employment training for your management team can prove to be excellent value and our employment team would be happy to develop and deliver training to meet your individual requirements. Our employment lawyers also regularly speak at networking and training events generally.

Transactional Work: Our employment solicitors are also experienced in leading and/or providing support to transactional matters, including advising on shareholder/employee exits, business transfers (involving compliance with the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 and information and consultation procedures), share sales and our new initiative for Schools converting to Academy status.
